Vincent Lamar Kirkland, age 62, of Anderson, South Carolina, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend whose life was dedicated to faith, family, and mentoring others. Vincent was married to Kelley Hagan Kirkland, his wife of nearly forty years, and their partnership was a testament to love, devotion, and shared faith.
Born on August 11, 1963, in Geneva, Alabama, Vince was the son of Patricia Austin Phillips and the late Gerald Lamar Kirkland. Growing up in Alabama, he developed a strong work ethic and a love for learning, graduating from Sidney Lanier High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. His education laid the foundation for a successful career at Michelin Tire Corporation, where he worked for nearly four decades as a TEC Service Coordinator, demonstrating unwavering dedication and expertise.
Vince’s true passion extended beyond his professional life. He was a dedicated coach for the Anderson Cavaliers Varsity Baseball team, where his influence extended far beyond the game. Over more than 30 years, Vince inspired hundreds of young men through his coaching, emphasizing discipline, integrity, and faith. He believed that baseball was merely a pathway to teach life lessons, often saying, “I’m not coaching baseball, I’m coaching young men.” His impact resonated deeply with players, families, and the community, leaving ripples of kindness and mentorship that will be felt for generations.
In addition to his wife Kelley and his mother Patricia, Vince is survived by his three sons: Ryan Kirkland (Lauralee) and their children Finley, Leo, and Wren of Simpsonville; Matthew Kirkland (Lindsay) and their children Hallie and Cooper of Fountain Inn; and Tyler Kirkland (Lauren) and their child Gray of Simpsonville. He is also survived by his brother Stan Kirkland (JoAnn) of Tallahassee, FL, and sister Lynn Favre (Bob) of Atlanta, GA.
Vince’s faith, family, and his mission to develop young men in self-discipline and love for God defined his life. His kind heart, selflessness, and remarkable ability to fix anything made him a pillar of strength and support to those around him. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren and was immensely proud of each of them.
